The Southern Zone ending Sextortion Movement (SESEMO) Project

Main Goals

To promote gender equality by fighting sexual corruption in working places, schools, colleges, and political parties through increased awareness on sextortion concept, advancing women rights, promoting grassroots movements and multi-stakeholders’ engagements.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

  1. To contribute to the national movements to end sexual corruption by creating community centered response mechanisms and maximizing grassroots movements.
  2. To integrate efforts across various sectors, engaging multiple stakeholders to amplify the voices of women and girls.
  3. Girls and women affected with sexual corruption be supported to access justice through formal and legal systems by analyzing, documenting, and monitoring criminal and civil cases.
  4. To join powers and build synergistic initiatives across multiple sectors in fighting sexual corruption.

Geographical coverage   

From 2022 to 2025, the project covered two regions (Mtwara and Lindi), two district councils (Tandahimba DC and Lindi MC), and twenty three, including:

Tandahimba Dc: Mihita, Malopokelo, Namikupa, Milongodi, Tandahimba, Kitama, Michenjele, Malopokelo, Lyenje, Mahuta, Mnyawa, Mihambwe

Lindi MC: Mingoyo, Jamuhuri, Lutamba, Mnazi Mmoja, Kitumbikwela,Sudi, Madangwa, Rasibula, Mtanda, Matopeni, Mpilipili

Southern Zone Ending Sextortion Movement (SESEMO)

The Southern Zone Ending Sextortion Movement, is the project being implemented in the Mtwara region (Tandahimba DC) and Lindi region (Lindi MC), the project since 2022 up to now 2025, focusing on fighting sextortion in school, collages, working place and in political parties. This promote and protect girls and women’s rights, the project integrate efforts across various sectors, engaging multiple stakeholders to amplify the voices of women and girls

The sustainability is ensured and garners the support of the Prevention and combatting of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) and the government leaders who are committed to integrating the agenda of fighting sexual corruption into various government meeting and platforms.

Result;

The information-sharing sessions through the Community of Practice (CoP) and training have significantly increased awareness among government officials and strengthened the government’s trust in the organization. Some of the stakeholders who attended the training included government officials such as PCCB officers, police officers from the Gender Desk, court officers, social welfare officers, and Community Development Officers, all identified from their respective departments. This has led to increased trust, cooperation, and coordination between the government and the organization. 

Voices from Different Multi-stakeholders about sexual corruption are amplified through active movements through using the three Community of practice(CoP) which include different stakeholder and ant sextortion movement, which created by our organization. Through the project, the organization has successfully established a Community of Practice (CoP) in three districts: Lindi MC, Mtwara MC, and Tandahimba DC, which includes all stakeholders such as government leaders, community leaders, and non-governmental leaders. Additionally, we have created an anti-sextortion movement that includes NGOs. Its role is to provide guidance and identify all issues related to sextortion, with various members actively involved in addressing these matters

Collaboration between Civil Society and Government; Successful initiatives often involve partnerships between government bodies and local NGOs from Tandahimba Dc and Lindi Mc. This collaboration was essential for scaling efforts to combat sexual corruption, For example, different local NGOs in Tandahimba Dc and Lindi Mc (Rotoso, Shimaseta, Taworo etc) have started to incorporate the issue of sexual exploitation to their activity. The commitment of social media platforms about to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), specifically sexual corruption are increased, which is crucial for reaching a broad audience. By promoting targeted campaigns, forming partnerships with influencers, and sharing educational content, social media plays a powerful role in informing the public.

Through advocacy session, Door of Hope Tanzania  is among of organization was use various media platforms to raise awareness and advocate for changes in the country’s legislation, particularly sections of 25(b)  that strip victim their right in case of sexual corruption. Organization contribute to ensure that victim of sexual corruption receive the justice and protection they deserve through using media, Radios and social media advocacy. So the goal of this advocacy was to make it easier for authorities to listen and ultimately bring about necessary changes to protect victims and prevent further exploitation and change has made.

Mwanangu Development Tanzania (MWADETA) is a national non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the lives of children living with hydrocephalus and spina bifida. We strengthen hospitals, train district healthcare providers, support inclusive schools, advocate for government policy change, promote prevention through folic acid and food fortification, and improve access to essential medical devices — ensuring that life-saving services are available closer to children’s homes and communities across Tanzania.
